RAF Ibsley Watch Office

In 2019, A&RMÉ was appointed by The Landmark Trust for RIBA Stage 0 to undertake initial strategic appraisal work for the RAF Ibsley Watch Office (Control Tower) rescue and representation project. In Autumn 2021, A&RMÉ was further appointed as project architect and lead consultant to progress a feasibility study for the project, together with structural engineers, The Morton Partnership, and environmental services consultants, EngDesign Ltd. The proposal seeks to adapt the existing structure to provide holiday accommodation for 8 people, whilst recreating — as far as practical — the original character of the building as a WWII Watch Office and air force base. Planning permission was secured in April 2026 following the resolution of ecological matters.

The derelict Watch Office at the former Ibsley Airfield is situated on the edge of extensive lakes in close proximity to the New Forest National Park. Its setting is both attractive and exceptionally sensitive, located within the Avon Valley SSSI, which is also designated as a Ramsar site.
